Graduate Students for Queer Awareness

About
Graduate Students for Queer Awareness (GSQA) is an organization comprised of graduate students of all levels dedicated to advancing, supporting, teaching and advocating for LGBTQIQA and varying gender identities on all Georgia State University campuses. Currently, the organization meets on the Atlanta campus within the Multicultural Center’s Gender and Sexuality Resource Center.

Purpose Statement
GSQA supports the professional and personal development of queer or LGBTQIQA graduate students at Georgia State University. GSQA aims to address the burdens and unique challenges often faced by LGBTQIQA and varying gender students in academic settings by:

  • Creating intentional spaces in which LGBTQIQA and varying gender students can build community and systems of professional and personal support (i.e. mentoring, networking, etc.)
  • Hosting workshops, guest lecturers and other educational forums on topics relevant to the interests and needs of LGBTQIQA and varying gender graduate students
  • Advocating for, educating about and promoting effective ally-ship practices within graduate departments at the administrative, faculty and student levels

Additionally, GSQA aims to provide a platform for collaborative and community building efforts among LGBTQIQA and varying gender identifying students and allies across different disciplines and departments at Georgia State University. GSQA is comprised of students from any graduate program at Georgia State University who wish to advance the goals of this organization.
